President Trump has approved the FDA for emergency approval to authorize convalescent blood plasma as therapeutic to treat the coronavirus.
The treatment has already been given to more than 70,000 patients, according to health officials and showed to improve the survival rate for coronavirus patients by 35 percent.
Many scientists and physicians believe that convalescent plasma will provide some benefit but is far from a silver bullet.
The FDA under Trump has approved emergency use authorization for convalescent plasma use to be used in hospitals to fight Covid-19. The treatment has been considered effective against the corona virus and worth any potential risks that come from the plasma.
Convalescent refers to anyone who has recovered from a disease. Plasma is the yellow, liquid part of blood that contains antibodies. Antibodies are proteins made by the body in response to infections. Convalescent plasma from patients who have already recovered from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) may contain antibodies against COVID-19. Giving this convalescent plasma to hospitalized people currently fighting COVID-19 may help them recover. –FDA
