Last week leaked screenshots of Twitter’s internal systems showed they keep “blacklists” for users and topics with options for “Trends Blacklist”, “Search Blacklist” and “ReadyOnly”.
On Tuesday Twitter announced an outright ban of QAnon accounts or accounts that engage with QAnon theories.
The official TwitterSafety account posted “We’ve been clear that we will take strong enforcement action on behavior that has the potential to lead offline harm. In line with this approach, this week we are taking further action on so-called “QAnon” activity across the service.”
Twitter also said they will:
- No longer serve content and accounts associated with QAnon in Trends and recommendations
- Work to ensure Twitter is not highlighting this activity in search and conversations
- Block websites associated with QAnon from being shared on Twitter
Twitter is now outright banning pro-Trump communities and websites.
